'A Wrinkle In Time' Cover Concept

Penguin Cover Design Award 2026 The brief asked for a fresh, exciting cover for A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle, a beloved classic of children's literature that blends fantasy and science fiction. The story follows siblings Meg and Charles Murry, who alongside their friend Calvin and three eccentric neighbours, embark on a journey through time and space to find their missing father. Along the way they encounter strange and wonderful beings, before facing a dark planet ruled by a mysterious, all-powerful evil. Aimed primarily at children aged 9–11 (as well as the parents, teachers, and booksellers who choose books for them), the design needed to feel imaginative and immediately engaging, while bringing a genuinely original concept to a book that has seen many cover iterations since its publication in 1962.
